Service of Adversary Summons (Summons Certificate of Service)

Location of event: Adversary > Complaint & Summons > Summons/Amended Complaint/Plaintiff's Initial Pleadings

Things to be aware of when filing:  Do not select the plaintiff as a recipient when the list of parties is presented.

Step-by-Step Procedures

1. Log into CM/ECF


2. Select Adversary > Complaint & Summons > Summons/Amended Complaint/Plaintiff's Initial Pleadings


3. Enter the case number (in the format xx-xxxxx) and click Next


4. Select Summons Certificate of Service from the event list and click Next


5. Browse to select the Motion (pdf file).  Click Next


6. All Summonses currently on the docket are displayed. If not already selected, check box next to the summons to which your Certificate of Service relates and click Next


7. Select the party or parties who were served. Do not select the plaintiff. Click Next


8. Enter the date service was made, as shown on the Certificate of Service and click Next


9. Final docket text is displayed. Click Next


10. Verify the final docket text; if correct, click Next to submit your document(s).


Note: The Notice of Electronic Filing displays giving you the document number. Copies of this notice are immediately e-mailed to all participants who receive electronic notification in the case.



Curing a Deficient Filing

A Corrected Certificate, fixing deficient items, must be filed prior to the deficiency deadline using the above instructions or the original Certificate may be stricken from the record and the case referred to the Judge for further action.
